He collaborated with Alan Menken on several films, including animated feature films from Disney, Ashman writing the lyrics and composition Menken scores. Elliott Howard Ashman Ashman was born into a Jewish family in Baltimore, Maryland, and was artistic director of the WPA Theatre in New York.
